Why This Size Exists
The CR2025 sits between the CR2016 and CR2032 in the same 20mm-diameter family, giving designers a middle ground when a device needs more capacity than the thinnest cells offer but doesn't have the internal depth for a full CR2032. Its 2.5mm thickness typically shows up in slim remote controls, small flashlights and laser pointers, glucose test meters, and other compact electronics where board space is tight.
Because it shares its 20mm diameter with the CR2032 and CR2016, package labels and online listings sometimes cause buyers to grab the wrong thickness. The battery compartment's spring contacts are usually sized for one specific thickness, so a CR2025 in a CR2032 slot -- or vice versa -- often fails to make reliable contact even though it appears to fit.
