M.2 card keying uses pin cutouts to enforce bus compatibility: M-Key (pins 59–66 cutout) supports PCIe x4 NVMe. B-Key (pins 12–19 cutout) supports SATA and PCIe x2. B+M Key has both cutouts for dual compatibility.
