Fire Extinguisher Classes
NFPA 10 classifies fires by fuel type: Class A covers ordinary combustibles like wood and paper, Class B covers flammable liquids and gases, Class C covers energized electrical equipment, Class D covers combustible metals, and Class K covers cooking oils and fats. The UK/EU system uses Class F instead of K.
GHS Pictograms
The UN Globally Harmonized System defines 9 pictograms -- red-bordered diamonds with a black symbol on white -- used on chemical labels worldwide: exploding bomb, flame, flame over circle, gas cylinder, corrosion, skull and crossbones, exclamation mark, health hazard, and environment, each flagging a distinct hazard category.
NFPA 704
The NFPA 704 Standard System uses a color-coded diamond with 4 quadrants rated 0 (no hazard) to 4 (severe hazard): Blue (Health Hazard), Red (Flammability), Yellow (Instability/Reactivity), and White (Special Hazards like W or OX).
