US Legal
US Legal paper measures 8.5 x 14 inches (216 x 356 mm) -- three inches longer than Letter. Despite its name, Legal size is not part of the ANSI/ASME Y14.1 engineering series; it is an "American loose size" documented by the IEEE-ISTO PWG 5101.1 media-naming standard rather than assigned an ANSI letter.
US Letter
US Letter paper measures 8.5 x 11 inches (216 x 279 mm), the de facto US standard for everyday documents. Designated "ANSI A" under ANSI/ASME Y14.1 (adopted 1996), it forms the base of the ANSI paper series and is roughly 6mm narrower and 18mm shorter than ISO A4.
US Tabloid
US Tabloid measures 11 x 17 inches (279 x 432 mm) and is designated "ANSI B" under ANSI/ASME Y14.1. The identical sheet is called "Ledger" when used in landscape orientation (17 x 11 inches); cutting an ANSI B sheet in half produces two ANSI A (Letter) sheets.
