NPT and BSPT threads are physically incompatible. NPT has a 60° thread angle and 18 TPI for 1/2" size, whereas 1/2" BSPT has a 55° Whitworth thread angle and 14 TPI. Forcing NPT into BSPT galling damages the fitting.
